Raaga Lahari

Raaga Lahari is a Youth Service Program by Rotary Indiranagar. Please read the guidelines carefully and register.

General Rules for Participation

  1. Registrations will be accepted online at https://bit.ly/2zwGJya on a first come first served basis. On registration participants will receive a confirmation email.

  2. An entry fee of Rs.100/- will be charged per participant per category payable by cash at the venue.

  3. Participation will be in two categories - Juniors (10-14 years) and seniors (15-18 years).

  4. The participants should carry a proof of age document issued by Central/State Government or School

  5. Participants with DOB between 01/01/2005 and 31/12/2008 are eligible to participate in the Junior category.

  6. Participants with DOB between 01/01/2001 and 31/12/2004 are eligible to participate in the Senior category.

  7. Age eligibility will be based only on date of birth and not the grade in which the student is studying.

  8. A participant can participate in a maximum of 2 events.

  9. Timings for each event will be communicated to the participants through the email / mobile number provided before 5 PM Nov 9 2018. The participants can also look at the details in the website.

  10. Participants should be present 30 minutes before the start of their event.

  11. Bharatanatyam participants should come in their costume and hair do.

  12. Time limit should be strictly followed. Defaulters will lose marks.

  13. No Accompaniment will be allowed for Classical, Light Classical and Folk music.

  14. No Microphones or other amplifying devices are allowed or provided.

  15. Children participating in Dance category must mail their songs in mp4 format to [email protected]. They must also bring the songs in a pendrive.

  16. Shruthi box is allowed for singers.

  17. Persons accompanying the participant should not help the participant in any way while they are on stage in thala or tuning of the Shruthi box or any such issues. If necessary the judges will help the participants in tuning the Shruthi box.

  18. Participants are expected to know all the details of the song that they will be singing or dancing to. In exceptional cases, if they don't know the composer, they could ask the judges before the competition begins.

  19. Depending on the number of participants an event may be judged through two rounds in which case a certain number of finalists will participate in the finals after the first round.

  20. The names of winners/finalists will be announced after completion of each event. The prize distribution will be held on the same day after completion of all events.

  21. We reserve the right to not to award any or all prizes if the performance of all participants is below the expectation of the judges.

  22. We reserve the right to cancel any event in any category.

  23. We reserve the right to disqualify any participant if rules are not followed or decorum is not maintained by the participant or persons accompanying the participant. The view of the organizers in this regard will be final.

  24. The decision of the organizers and the judges will be final in all respects.

Event-wise Rules

Carnatic Classical (Vocal/Instrumental)

Time Duration

Junior vocal/Senior Instrumental: 6 to 8 minutes

Senior vocal: 8 to 12 minutes

Performance Criteria:

Junior vocal/Senior instrumental: Must sing a Varna or Keerthana of their choice.

Compositions of only, Sri Thyagaraja, Muthuswami Dikshitar, Patnam Subramanya Aiyer, Muthaiah Bhagavathar, to be sung.

Varna to be sung in Madhayama Kala

Senior vocal: Must sing a Varna or Keerthana of their choice.

Along with these they have to sing Raaga, Swara Kalpana and Neraval.

Compositions of only, Sri Thyagaraja, Muthuswami Dikshitar, Patnam Subramanya Aiyer, Muthaiah Bhagavathar, to be sung.

Varna to be sung in Madhayama Kala

Folk song (Vocal)

Time Duration

Junior: up to 3 minutes

Senior: up to 5 minutes

Performance Criteria:

Any folk song in Kannada/Hindi will be allowed. English is not allowed

Children singing Film Songs in Folk songs category will be disqualified. Children singing Folk

songs can have only a Taala along with the Shruthi Box. (No other instruments allowed)

Light Classical (Bhajans /Devarnaama)

Time Duration

Junior: 5 minutes

Senior: 5 minutes

Performance Criteria:

In Light Classical Devarnaama children have to sing only the original ragas earlier composed by Daasas and not sing ones which have been used in films or any new ragas of the Devarnaama.

Light classical bhajans - children are supposed to sing non filmy bhajans only.

Children can sing bhajans in Kannada,Hindi,Tamil,Telugu,Malayalam and Marathi.

Dance (Bharathanatyam)

Time Duration

Junior: 8 to 10 minutes

Senior: 8 to 10 minutes

Performance Criteria:

Junior and Senior

Children can perform any one of the following.

Kautvam, Jathiswaram, Thillana, Shabdham or Keerthana.

Children should come with their costumes and hairdo to the venue.
